Question by mig:
How successful are automobile GPS tracking/recovery systems?
In order to gain piece of mind in the occasion my car is stolen (again), I am seriously contemplating this investment.

1) Any person created this investment? If so, how considerably did you invest and have you ever had to use it?

two) Encouraged products?(e.g.LoJack,MircoTRAKgps)

three) Techniques thieves can overcome technique?

Thanks.

——————————————

Answer by CowboyBill
These systems are amazingly powerful, LoJack is the only one I am familiar with. Theives can disable the system IF they know the vehicle is equipped with it and exactly where it is situated (usuall buried behing the dash assy). Of course, only a really dumb theif would steal a vehicle equipped with this device, but, alas, most crooks are quite dumb. Unsure of the cost of the device and service but you need to be ready to transfer it to another car later.
Frankly, the most powerful anti-theift program we’ve seen in the business is the encoded keys that disable the vehicle when tampered with or attempted to be driven with no the proper essential. The only way a typical dirtbag will get your ride then is with a tow truck.

Question by Jro1980:
Are GPS systems advanced enough to track a car?
I know little about global positioning devices and would like to know a bit more about them from somebody who has one or has knowledge of such.
I know they have ones that can show you where you are driving and such but do they have kinds that can track people? I have a daughter whom I’m trying to keep track of and I’m trying to figure out how I can keep a closer eye on her.
How dependable are they? If one exists for my purposes does it show in detail where the vehicle is heading and moving?

——————————————

Answer by seattlesailor2000
yes, there are several teen driver/vehicle tracking devises on the market.

take a look at these systems

Active GPS personal monitoring tracking device allows you to monitor a vehicle at all times. You can see where it is in real time. You can also look at history; where the vehicle was, how long it was there, how fast it was going. Active GPS tracking can notify you if the vehicle is involved in an accident or if it leaves a specific geographic area.

hopes this helps

Answer by rick29148
Certainly, +/- a couple of yards.

Answer by Rob
It’s for the best trust me. He’s protecting his investment. As for modifying the gps that’s probably gonna take a lot of work and know how and you’ll risk getting busted. Truck drivers have the same type of system and it’s a pain.

Answer by Cmundley
I hope you do get busted for trying to disable it, and that he takes the car away from you. It’ll be one less idiot on the roads we all share!

Answer by earlyout
Live with it. Your Dad is just concerned about you.

Answer by RedSeal
I really want to take your side on this one but, even if you could disable it how long before the cops get you ,I think its better to just follow the rules..
Now with that being said, There nothing wrong with testing it a little, off the start you know what I mean and then ease off the peddle just before you get to the speed limit…………..Have fun
