Consider it on another personal computer. Cannot discover tough-reset instructions. It stays what it was a number of many years ago when I last had a TomTom item: awful. So I named TomTom assistance. Study the TomTom tech support pages on the internet, searching for a way to reset the unit. The very first girl is clueless, keeps asking me the same simple inquiries more than and over, keeps placing me on hold and basically can not look to understand that the touchscreen is inoperative. Following refusing my earlier ask for to be escalated, she now advised me that I could be escalated for additional troubleshooting. She seemed incapable of comprehending that basic truth. Okay, not a large offer and this kind of things do come about. It does not function out of the box. Wow! TomTom really cares about buyer relations, never they? Bizarre. Hey, all that new technological goodness TomTom claims to have integrated. I patiently answered the same elementary questions above and above, dealing with nicely-mannered girls who plainly knew absolutely nothing at all about the gadget and had been just studying from a script or asking other personnel for solutions. She tells me I can return the unit at my cost – and then wait 10 days or much more for a substitute. Nada. And now I am waiting 24 to 72 hrs for a contact from TomTom buyer help that may possibly or could not come. The moment yet again, I was asked the identical question more than and more than. Customer critique from the Amazon Vine™ System (What is this?)

I haven’t used any TomTom items for many a long time owing to an unfortunate incident with their client assistance, which – many many years back – could be described in 1 word: terrible. But it was apparent that if she couldn’t quickly discover an answer on a script, she would place me on hold for a moment or two – and then recite a canned, typically inappropriate, response. But anyone taking into consideration TomTom need to be wary of TomTom’ just plain terrible client support. Jerry. She refused my request to escalate the get in touch with. Yet again, I spoke with a polite, well-mannered girl who spoke English reasonably effectively with out a challenging accent. I am sitting right here with a unit I had been excitedly waiting for. Discover Soft-reset instructions, which don’t remedy the problem. I should count on to get a call inside of 24 to 72 hrs. If this had been an ordinary transaction, I would merely return the solution for substitute or refund. I tried self-aid with out accomplishment (since there seems to be no way to hard-rest the GO Live 1535M with out being ready to reach the main menu, which I couldn’t do due to the fact the touch response was inoperative). The unit arrives nowadays, I unpack it and go through the simple illustrated instruction sheet, bring up their website as instructed, turn the unit on and – oh, oh – the touchscreen does not function. Talk about abysmal buyer help. Right here we are many years later and I am offered the chance to critique a TomTom GO Reside 1535M which truly excites me. But take into account this: I invested an hour -wasted an hour – making an attempt to get useful details from their website and then with two girls who are completely unknowledgeable about the item or how to resolve the issues. So bizarre, in simple fact, that I called back in and spoke with one more customer support representative. Fiddle with it for a whilst, attempt connecting it to the pc through a immediate USB port, the unit is acknowledged, but communication swiftly fails. Then they want me to return a brand-spanking new unit to them at my expense for a substitute that might take 10 days or more – and that is after waiting another 24 to 72 hours for a hope-for return phone, which might or could not come. Touching the “Following” button does practically nothing. Provided that, would I be interested in acquiring an additional TomTom merchandise – thinking about that someday I may possibly need to have buyer support once again? If and when I get a operating replacement, I will amend my evaluation to contain solution functionality (if indeed, the replacement functions). This is TomTom help. She did not have any troubleshooting actions

three” screen. It replaced my TomTom Go 730 with 4. Which is bad news, since I already tossed the retail box which had the activation code. I had to send a copy of my purchase receipt and give them the serial of my gps, and that was it. But, I disabled the BT and FM in my Go anyway and I do not miss them at all. &#13This will be my 5th GPS gadget so far. I identified myself searching for non-existent ramps and exits much more frequently in the last year, so 550TM with its lifetime map updates will hopefully get rid of this kind of annoyances. &#13- Reads names of streets just like the Go does (however this is a normal characteristic now). I contemplate TomTom Go 730 a fairly modern GPS with a lot of good features, so I will critique TomTom 550TM in comparison to that one. I find displaying the current speed and the speed restrict on the screen redundant, it would have been nice to have the selection to show perhaps the compass as a substitute. &#13- Clever interface. &#13- Fewer menu choices largely due to missing additional performance, and some with regards to what is displayed on display. I got TomTom550TM about two weeks ago. The great thing is, TomTom consumer service was actually valuable and inside a day I got the incident solved. &#13- Final but not the least lifetime traffic and map updates. Big relief, simply because I really like this GPS, and I am arranging to preserve it for a couple of a long time at least. Visitors updates are a good to have, although I never ever was in a predicament that they have been crucial with my older TomTom GPS. The lanes are clearly displayed on the display at essential times. &#13And the pros:&#13- Simple menu! Who cares about 8 issues when you are making an attempt to just enter a new handle? &#13- Significant screen is a relief to your eyes. . As others have currently talked about, the firmware upgrade extra the alternative to view the turn-by-turn list of directions as text. &#13Update: I have two essential bits of data. However, map updates are a should. &#13Let me begin with the cons: &#13- No Bluetooth hands-free of charge, FM transmitter, SD reader, and so forth. Secondly, when I attempted to update the map, I identified out that I have never paired my gps with my TomTom account prior to. This was almost certainly the most significant missing feature that individuals felt the need for. Driving in summer season is adequate strain on the eyes

” I have herd this complaint from a amount of Garmin users, and soon after questioning, I come across most of them just feel that’s the way GPSs are. I hope several of you know that these unfavorable reviews are written by Garmin employees. The Garmin interface is nice, but for me, routing is everything, and the TomTom is just diverse, not undesirable. It exhibits me the total route and asks me if I want another route. This meant that except if I generally knew the spot I was triving to, I was taking far lengthier than I necessary to. Garmin just mentioned,”We do not see it. Well, they are not, and my new TomTom XXL550 is amazing. I am extremely stunned because the 1st Garmin Streetpilot a few many years back was fantastic at routing, but my final two, like the 255W, was horrid, always sending me the shortest way, no matter what I put in or what the site visitors was. Requires me the quickest way, reroutes all around targeted traffic and obstacles swiftly, and gives me far more options than my Garmin EVER did. How challenging is that?. To stop a route, just difficult the display, touch route and press clear. . just that is really worth the value

“Greatest Garmin” does not imply best. 4&#13Update to 3. In 2D view most highways will not be labeled, which tends to make picking a point on map a very painful, if not not possible activity. It really is nearly as effortless to use as outdated Nuvi’s from 200, 600 and 700 series, but has a considerably richer functionality. &#13Sometimes it also restarts for the duration of voice recognition. It now appears to be integrated with trip planner, so when you attempt to add a new point to your route, you can re-shuffle the order of destinations. At least it’s a imaginative idea and a thing for me to assume about. I have to note here that I had at least a single case exactly where with all the bells and whistles and the new UI, the closest gas station it could offer along the route was 10 miles away and required added ten minutes of travel time, although my pre-historic 255W with very same map version supplied a gas station that was 1 mile away and needed a 2-minute detour. four. So I have to drive up to the critical point and navigate from there. It fails to calculate quite considerably every single route from Brooklyn to Manhattan due to (what it seems to be) a mapping bug on one particular of the highways. POI categories are even far more plainly defined, restaurant varieties have even far more sub-categories and you can also search POI by just typing (or saying) the name. &#13You nonetheless have an choice to select “poi close to destination”, “poi near energetic route”, and so forth, and selecting people options is also considerably less difficult than on units released in the last couple of a long time. Upd: as I’ve said – fixed in firmware v four. g. &#13I also had issues registering it because Garmin communicator plug-in could not see it on my Computer. Have not tried nevertheless, but according to description, it connects to Android phones and brings Reside visitors for /year and fuel rates for $ ten/year. If in the past you would get a checklist of, hotels, with distance, now it would group them by highway title and exit quantity and for the nearest ones will give the distance to the exit as well. six also launched a curious bug exactly where the unit sometimes reboots itself if I miss a turn. One more item that was re-worked significantly is adding a via point. Many weird GUI remedies produced in earlier versions are now re-worked into some thing that provides you a quite pleasant knowledge. &#13Also this update introduced some thing known as “smartphone hyperlink”. It is a shame it took them that long, but ultimately I look to be able to use this point to calculate routes originating from my house. My expectation is that this will be fixed quickly as it is not actually acceptable. I’ve seen men and women acquiring related dilemma in other components of the country and this also is an situation with other designs from the new line-up (tested on 2495). You do not have to suffer through getting into the state and the city anymore. No big deal, truly. Just sort the street and the home range and it will search for the handle in nearby cities and states, will give you a checklist of alternatives , and only if you do not see the a single you’re searching for, you can kind the city and state. The rest is the evaluation as of November. Especially given that it has much better site visitors coverage. . The downside of it, as some individuals complained, is that if you browse a map, it may only demonstrate you the initial leg of the route (as usually, not clear why). (Ok, the UI may possibly not be quickly straightforward and I had to make clear consumer service rep how to turn GPS simulation mode on, but when you get utilised to it, it feels excellent and gets greater with time)One of the finest attributes of 3490 is the ease of input. This does not appear to be a large issue and if while. “Poi near active route” option was re-worked and it feels like it’s integrated with the new “exit solutions” function. Old pre 1xxx Garmins have far better map detail and I still a lot favor 255W for extended-distance drives. upd 01/18: it looks like following three months of delay, “Unable to calculate route” error was ultimately fixed with firmware edition four. TomTom (I personal 2535) would give it right away. If you have the identical difficulty, it ought to be effortlessly solvable, see comments to this post. It is a new model, so bugs are visible each and every day. POI search is also simplified (even even though it is difficult to imagine that POI search on Garmin can be produced less complicated). Also what’s important, POI search is extremely quickly, wonderful improvement compared to older versions. That stated, I actually like 3490 way a lot more then I anticipated and I assume it really is a excellent unit. Also, whilst you kind, it gives numerous matching street names to decide on from. The only odd point is that the matches do not seem to rely on your prior searches, e. . &#13Map detail is even now inadequate. For somebody who has to commute in between two states (like NY and NJ) that would be a good relief.

Read far more. if you just lately searched for “Broadway” and begin typing “B”, you will have to sort all the way until finally “Broadw” ahead of “Broadway” exhibits up. The UI has been re-worked and simplified compared to the chaotic mess that Garmin has been doing for the final two-three a long time

It got to be irritating at instances. Also, this is the first Garmin unit I have owned that does not say, “recalculating” when a route is becoming recalculated. I also like currently being ready to decide on what poi’s you would like to see pop up on the display as you travel. I really like info and the capability to handle it. You can add a lot of them on the way. When you calculate a route you are typically provided a number of choices. I was nicely on my way with the 3490 when the 3790 kicked in. I presently have the Nuvi 3790 and almost did not go for this new unit. . I like this technique and manage. It is difficult for any GPS to take into account visitors lights and building on normal streets. I also loaded safety camera poi’s from a third celebration and that went nicely as well. left the targeted traffic and mute button and altered the stop route button to wherever to. Had it pre-ordered on Amazon, they sent me a note that it was shipping and then it did not and got delayed, so I got it elsewhere. UPS years ago programmed their computers to get rid of left turns as a lot as attainable to save gas and time. . This transpires on the 3790 as effectively, but it is less difficult to use on the 3490. I also found the voice command characteristic to be a bit much more responsive and precise than the 3790. I have found lane help to be invaluable. I like the concept of them on the screen even though. I had read that street information wasn’t as prevalent as the 3790, but I selected the much more detail selection and haven’t really observed a lot distinction. The 3490 got going more quickly than the 3790. Truly enjoyed seeing for instance a McDonald’s close to my travels and just driving in its direction when I had a Navigon 7100 and 7200. Went smoothly. It really is obtainable on Amazon for a bit less costly than the retail price. Reminds me of my Navigons many years ago. Garmin has a perfect case just created for the 3400 and 3700 series. I was concerned that the new user interface was taking away things from me. It tends to make sense if you believe about it. My individual preference. The two had been turned on and had acquired signals the day just before, so it was an equal comparison when I pushed both on buttons at the exact same time. Reminds me of Magellan — I have had a couple of of them in the previous — but like Garmin better. I also seen far more lane assist screens on the 3490 than the 3790. I anticipate Garmin will update these along the way.

Go through more. I was sad to see them leave the US market place, but Garmin has caught up with their wonderful concepts. And even though the dashboards want some function I discovered the default a single would seem to perform for me at this point the greatest. I also really like the thought of acquiring your favored poi’s or saved destinations obtainable as shortcuts on the wherever to menu. The 3 default buttons seemed fine at initial, but I transformed one of them . Once more it reminds me of Navigon. Registering the unit was a breeze. No space for the receiver. I adore this size simply because I carry it in my shirt pocket when out of the automobile. A word of caution, you have to invest some time drilling down all the menu options, considering that you have a great deal of handle over what you want displayed on the display. I also like how junction views look with picture real photos and now sharing the screen and staying on the screen right up until you get there. I had an concern with the 3790 and it had to be replaced (with a refurbished unit). . This unit just recalculates with no discover. I did enjoy the reside function and Google search on the 1695 I had, but it’s a trade off for the fantastic dimension. I would urge you to get it. I am now glad I did. And you can reorder them as to how you get to them and in what order. No problem for my Garmin communicator to identify the unit and ask me if I desired to register it. I have a number of trips all above in the up coming handful of weeks and was anxious to get this unit just before they started. Not certain if it optimizes the routing for them, but I suspect it does not. I use net-updater typically as I can management what gets updated. I have rather significantly what data I had before available to me and even much more. I would NOT load their map updater. . I suspect that a single reason the 3400 and 3700 series are not reside like the 1695 is its dimension. You can get rid of all the shortcut buttons if you want. It seemed to me less complicated to hit the button to select a by way of point than hit a button twice. They preserve plenty and lots of income. I want to be in manage of what gets updated. Just my two cents really worth of experience. Speaking of by means of factors, I like how this unit handles them. A lot much better method than a few seconds for a pop up covering the entire screen in the past. It is really the 3790 unit size, but a fraction heavier, just a fraction. On the very first leg of my trip I had the 3790 and 3490 set up side by side. This is a really compact unit. Arrival occasions constantly vary

. . Or the lack of it. So. The unit seems excellent, it has extremely vivid graphics with sharp detail. You can make up your thoughts how important that feature is to you. The NAVTEQ signal my tomtom picks up without having concern is not even registering with the Garmin, a lot significantly less any of the attractive “update each and every 60 2nd targeted traffic” capabilities. I would price everything but the visitors a solid 5 stars. My tomtom receives the standard NAVTEQ traffic signal for the entire route at full power. UPDATE 26 Oct 2011: I ended up returning the unit. Possibly it was supposed to say “updates FOR 60 seconds” not “Every 60 seconds. ” Har har. To examine it, on the way house I really detoured through downtown, and positive adequate, it finally began picking up signal, even though by no means at complete strength that I noticed. I live and function in the Pittsburgh, PA location, and commonly drive up and down the turnpike (I-76) to/from work. So what’s not to enjoy? In a word – Site visitors. Routing speed is quick (another clear benefit more than my tomtom). I am at a loss as to whether to maintain it or return it. . I see other evaluations complaining about the visitors as effectively. . . And the advertised “HD Traffic” (whatever that indicates) was one of the major good reasons I purchased the unit. The “Voice Command” feature is Excellent. The navigation features appear good, though it does work a bit differently than other Garmin units I personal, so I am operating by way of a learning curve. I’ll wait, and if Garmin releases a new production run with an updated receiver I will take into account buying then. I rate the traffic a sound 1 star. I called Garmin tech assistance, they ended up suggesting I return it for yet another, which I did. Till then I will plod along with my Tomtom, which annoys me more each and every day it looks, heh. There are plenty of other options I haven’t even begun to play with, like Exit Services, points of interest, customizable buttons on the screen, several destination routing, and on and on. For me, I paid a premium cost for the unit, with a lot of worth deriving from the site visitors function, and with out it I am really disappointed. The 1st 3490LMT I bought never ever picked up the visitors signal on that route, not once. But in the finish I made the decision that only having a site visitors signal for the couple of blocks surrounding the downtown Pittsburgh spot was just as well silly – Pittsburgh does really have a great deal of traffice outdoors these number of blocks – and it had to go back. The second 3490LMT got a SNIFF of traffic the subsequent day, for about 60 seconds, then gone again. I really did like every thing about it except the anemic traffic a great deal, and attempted to speak myself into not wanting the traffic feature. The mounting method is easy to use and effectively created (I own a Tomtom unit as well, which has a horrible mount program, so this comment is actually crucial to frustrated Tomtom users). It has plenty of functionality, and recognizes my voice commands very almost flawlessly, accessible commands and possibilities are presented to you on every display so you never have to memorize possibilities, it really is a CLEAR winner of a characteristic.

&#13-The voice on the unit sounds a lot greater than the Garmin Nuvi. I had them mounted subsequent to every single other most of the time. This is valuable if you desired to modify settings or play around with the unit. I was driving on the freeway one particular time and my very low fuel indicator flashed and in a city I am not familiar with and all I have to say was “Go to the nearest fuel station” and inside minutes I am filling up my gasoline tank! This is so cool! I did not have to fiddle with the unit to input and chose wherever I needed to go, maintaining my attention on the road – where it should be. . &#13I tested each units driving all around where I dwell and when we went on vacation in Las Vegas. It is also excellent for searching for a particular POI whilst driving, I enjoy how you can just say “Go to the nearest Starbucks” and it will get you there with just a single button input! The voice command characteristic is not ideal however, as some POI names, no matter how your pronounce it, just won’t get acknowledged by the unit. And I have to agree! The display gets easily washed up below the sun! There are times when you have to actually focus on the display just to read what is on there. It also does not support that the letters and graphics on the display are smaller and the colors are not that vivid! The icons search flat as effectively. I was shocked when 1 day I was driving (almost sunset) when the sun’s rays coming from the. . The Nuvi locks you out the minute you plug in the USB cord. I needed to get a new GPS unit due to the fact the developed in unit I have in my SUV is outdated.

Examine a lot more. It really is virtually instant whereas the Nuvi could take seconds, often even numerous minutes to discover its initial POI (this genuinely sucks when you are so ready to go, even a minute feels like an eternity!). TomTom Via 1535TM&#13I bought the two units to evaluate them and in the finish select the unit that best suits my wants and preferences. &#13-Preloaded speed traps/site visitors digital camera POIs. Garmin Nuvi 1490LMT vs. . The Nuvi will give you the alternative to display the same data on its status bar, but it will place the standing bar vertically on the correct side of the show that can make the primary screen smaller (like an old 3. ” All this information is displayed on the unit at all times, you don’t have to calculate in your head. &#13TomTom By way of 1535TM&#13PROS:&#13-By default, gives more information (speed, distance, time and so forth) on the standing bar, found on bottom of screen, compared to the Nuvi. But this also depends on how common the POI is, if you’re seeking for McDonalds or a thing well acknowledged, then both units will give you an immediate checklist. &#13-Regularly finds POIs quicker than the Nuvi. The unit will beep to alert you of incoming visitors cameras! It’ll make you rethink about running that red light!! The Nuvi does not have any traffic camera POIs preloaded, even though you can get these from on the web. . The volume on the Nuvi is a lot louder than the By way of even though. And just over the Via’s standing bar, it exhibits the street name that you are presently on (I discover this quite beneficial), the Nuvi does not have this characteristic whilst navigating. The portability, becoming capable to use on yet another car, and the cost-free lifetime maps are truly what I am soon after but determined that lifetime targeted traffic alerts is not a negative option either. five” GPS display) I really really like this feature and how it is displayed on the display, it really is really cool to have all this information prepared at all times. Something you may say, “Honey, I am about 65 miles away and will be house in about 50 minutes, by 2:30pm, I must be pulling up by the driveway. &#13CONS:&#13-The Through requires a lengthy time to obtain a satellite signal! It takes anywhere from 1 to four minutes just to get a lock on a signal! You happen to be almost certainly saying, what is 1-four minutes?! Properly, I had the Nuvi following to it turned on the very same and it acquired a signal in much less than 30 seconds! The 4 minutes of waiting feels like forever! And this is not occasionally. I would like to point out that what ever you chose between the two, the selection will not be a error as they are each good GPS units, they both have their own strengths and weaknesses, but it will come down to what you really favor or your comfort degree. &#13-The voice command attribute is great when it performs and it works most of the time. this is all the time!!&#13-Like a great deal of people say, the LCD display of the TomTom Via is inferior to that of the Garmin Nuvi’s. I tried IKEA and seven-ELEVEN numerous occasions with no achievement. I really like this function specifically when driving to a new tackle it is so a lot less difficult saying in which you are going as a substitute of manually inputting every little thing onto the unit. The voice sounds far more human, greater to the ears while the Nuvi’s voice sounds also robotic. Even with the feature’s shortcomings, I identified this characteristic to be a offer breaker!&#13-I also like the simple fact that you can even now access the device while connected to the computer

&#13The thing is, this is a really good piece of engineering. ) On the other hand, it does seem to be to have eventually set up the additional voice I purchased for it the day I got it, (before I knew that it did not at that time help including added voices) so it will be fascinating to see how that will function out. For illustration, as of right now (April 5th 2011) you aren’t going to locate it on most of the drop down menus on Tomtom’s site or as an choice on the cellphone menu when you phone customer service. The TomTom Through series is still a wealthy source of drama – it isn’t compatible with TomTom Property, and the MyTomTom software program it *is* compatible with is just Awful and hugely frustrating. But people of you who, like me, just want to get exactly where you are going with a bit of enjoyable along the way, and the least amount of trouble, may well want to pick something else. &#13On the other hand it is a nifty tiny factor, and I do appreciate employing it. And the TomTom site does now acknowledge the existence of the By means of designs, even though it nevertheless does not offer much for them. &#13Update, June 17th 2011: Right after making use of this gadget for a number of months, I nonetheless feel that everyone hunting for a drama-cost-free GPS really should go and acquire some thing else. I’m not content at acquiring been lured into Beta testing Tomtom’s new product line, this is my 1st GPS and I paid 0 for it, I desired a wonderful encounter correct out of the box. Exciting. I just got my Tomtom By means of 1505TM yesterday, and acquiring just got off the mobile phone with the (effortless to attain &amp very friendly &amp valuable) client service here is what I want I’d acknowledged prior to I bough this: it is still in Beta and isn’t supported by a great deal of Tomtom’s infrastructure nevertheless. &#13Hopefully by the finish of the year (as I said, I’m writing this on April 5th 2011) this review will be obsolete but correct now, if you buy this GPS these days, you will not be obtaining a entirely supported device. As it is I’m just feeling a bit unhappy about the entire thing, and even the charming client service hasn’t produced that go away. The traffic function is outstanding, and has helped me stay out of many site visitors jams, even though at times the site visitors feature just will not load, which is a shame. &#13So. I am assured that above the program of this year Tomtom will send updates to the By way of GPSes that will at some point allow them to join the celebration but for now there is quite little assistance for this item. I’m informed its a better technique but since this is my very first GPS I wouldn’t know. I’ve owned this factor for months and tonight was the very first time I have ever efficiently managed to update it, and that has taken me two hrs and much nailbiting (At 1 point it managed to wipe itself clean of all maps &amp I had to totally reinstall almost everything. It is super straightforward to set up and use. I assume it really is kind of weird to release a beta that has less performance than the models it supersedes without having obviously warning potential purchasers so I am creating this critique today. It works in a fundamentally diverse way to previous Tomtoms, and you can use it whilst it is plugged into your laptop or computer. I’m not complaining about the gadget itself, it is really cool. It sticks on my windscreen very nicely. ) All in all, I’ve enjoyed making use of it, but I believe I would have enjoyed it far more if I’d purchased a thing that was a entirely functioning item and not just a poorly supported beta. It recalculates directions incredibly quickly. A pal of mine has an earlier Tomtom and I know she gets frustrated at not getting ready to access her Tomtom even though it is connected to her pc so that is a definite plus. Early adopters and devoted beta testers rejoice! This is absolutely the Tomtom for you. Far more seriously, it cannot connect to Tomtom Property which is the software package that makes it possible for you to do the enjoyable things Tomtom supply like downloading voices or other doodads to your gadget. I also can’t acquire a carry case sized just to match my Through – which is a different form to preceding designs simply because it attaches to my automobile employing a diverse technique. It has a completely intuitive interface, and it provides superb directions the two spoken and on the display. &#13. I was genuinely looking forward to customizing my GPS with various voices and I am unhappy I can not do that. As a lot of other men and women have pointed out it *does* take quite a couple of minutes for the device to locate the satellites (I had believed this was just simply because I reside out in the sticks, in the middle of a forest with no cell telephone reception even, but if other people are possessing a dilemma it need to be one thing to do with the unit. Purchase one particular and get pleasure from yourselves. Progress is being built by TomTom to bring the Through series out into the standard neighborhood of TomTom goods but this is very much still a beta gadget and I do nonetheless wish I’d bought a distinct GPS program. I’m told that this model is the future of Tomtom, and that in time it will do almost everything the other models do and much more, but the truth is that it does not do that now, right now, April 5th 2011

USERS REVIEWS:

This takes up about the correct half of the screen. For me at least, the “Viewing Junction” feature was of no use to me. I wanted to speak about the new functions that attracted me to this unit and how I evaluated their usefulness on my initial 3 hour road trip to a area I know by heart. I am older and am acquiring to use studying glasses to see the GPS mounted to the dash. In between cities, pressing the site visitors button indicated that there was no or weak signal. I considered a 7 inch Magellan, but when I located out you couldn’t install custom POIs on the Magellan, it ruled that one out for me. I identified the “Viewing Junctions” not very valuable, as you had to look over a much larger area of the screen to absorb the information in a glance. On my trip there had been no traffic troubles, so I did not get to expertise any rerouting due to traffic circumstances. The five inch show was definately an improvement for me. I also have truck stops I like to use. I definately don’t like currently being distracted by touching the screen to see how far the up coming roadside rest is (see custom POIs above). e. Element three – Turn lanes. Other Notes: &#13I located the estimated time of arrival to be far more correct than my prior GPSs. If your actual speed exceeds the posted limit, it turns red. “4810 Whitewood Court” ended up with a thing quite strange. So I believed telling the GPS what I needed created a lot of sense. Sometimes this icon is in the decrease proper of the display, occasionally it is found elsewhere dependent on in which you are in the menus. Because this was a small different than prior units, I am getting to get adjusted to this. i. . Element five – Posted speed limits – As you are navigating a tiny sign appears on the display showing the posted limit and your actual speed. Maybe simply because it understands the posted limits as they change along the route??? The menu program is diverse from my prior GPSs. There is an icon composed of three horizontal white bars that, when pressed, bring up other possibilities. My earlier unit was a 4 inch. A single is “Viewing Junctions” which displays a image of the upcoming junction, comprehensive with signage. I couldn’t get it to appropriately find any of three addresses the right way. We go camping frequently and I have all the state parks as custom POIs. This is my 3rd Garmin GPS. I have turn out to be accustomed to their user interface and performance, so I can’t compare to other helps make. There are two distinctly various capabilities on this unit for realizing the turn lanes. The lane(s) you are to be in are brilliant white, even though the others are grey. Characteristic one – five inch display. Good tiny function to retain sincere people honest. I identified I had to glance at the “Viewing Junctions” image many occasions ahead of I understood which lane it desired me to be in. The other turn lane function is a modest spot in the upper left corner that shows , by making use of arrows, the quantity of lanes. When it comes to “commands” this characteristic operates OK, but I have discovered I have to turn the radio volume down or speak Really LOUDLY. . The latter disturbs my wife Even so, when you want to supply an address to locate, the unit carried out badly. This feature appears to only perform when you are in or all around greater cities. &#13. Feature four – Traffic. Characteristic 2 – Automated voice recognition. I identified the arrows to be Really valuable and quick to absorb at a glance. Understanding which lane you require to be in to properly exit the highway and be all set for the up coming turn

Most of the testimonials here are for the 2595, not the 2555 that I purchased. With the 2555 “Rest Area” is a category and as a result only a couple of button presses away. I didn’t need to have voice activation or bluetooth so the 2555 is just fine for me. I am a prolonged-time Garmin user and I think it is light years more rapidly than my old Nuvi model. Though some of the new functions are a little tough to get utilised to I nevertheless think this unit deserves the highest marks. In summary, I am a delighted customer who is enjoying the new attributes that Garmin has additional to it really is new 2012 line of GPSs. Again, that provides this model high marks. My favorite feature on the 2555 is the categorization of spots you would like to go. It really is also wonderful to have lifetime maps and targeted traffic upgrades. For instance, on my old unit I utilized to have search for and then type in “REST A” to discover the up coming rest region on my route. I have to disagree with the reviewer that says it is slow to find wherever you are. The bigger screen alone helps make it really worth an upgrade from an older unit. Effectively really worth the upgrade!

See updates to original assessment below:&#13———————————&#13First off, I have been a extended time Garmin user. I feel this Garmin gadget has a resistive touchscreen as opposed to a capacitive touchscreen — which could explain the responsiveness. Had a old Streetpilot GPS that served me well for a long time. &#13+ Brightness modifications on switching from automobile electrical power to battery only power. The brightness setting doesn’t alter but the actual brightness does. &#13+ Graphical User Interface (GUI) wants to enhance. &#13+ Do not like the touchscreen responsiveness or precision. &#13+ Voice advice demands to increase. That intelligence is nicely and excellent if it works nicely but it does not. Why so several clicks and screens?!!Overall, I would say Caveat Emptor on buying the device. Likewise, finding a spot of interest takes much more clicks than prior to. Points have modified with this new nuvi but not so significantly that the UI feels alien. when you search for one thing, it normally restricts itself to the town you are in. It is unable to find the Point-of-interest (POI) if it’s in a nearby town (Most frequently your searches would fall in this category). &#13 b) though voice recognition seems to operate well in quiet problems, I did come across myself repeating my voice commands although using the gadget in a slightly noisy surroundings (such as driving on a highway with road noise filling the cabin space). &#13+ the route calculation and location search seems more quickly. Just not as responsive (delicate?) as an iphone. I am familiar with Garmin’s user interface. + Do not like the search characteristic it is not as effortless, basic and intuitive as the old streetpilot was. With the “voice guidance with street names” setting, the device says a thing like “Turn correct on freedom drive”. So, I am having to appear at the distance on the unit. That isn’t as useful as saying “Turn correct on freedom drive in 500 feet”. There are some caveats even though. + Voice Navigation element is great and exceeded my (very low) expectations. &#13+ Touch interface is fine. So, you would have to go to the brightness setting to enhance the brightness of the screen when you switch. &#13. &#13——–&#13(ten/29/11) Updates/Addition to authentic critique: &#13I am going to knock off a star from the rating as there are various little annoyances with the gadget. Typically locate myself mistyping even when becoming deliberate and careful in pressing a letter. &#13 a) Not all of the functions/settings of the phone are controllable by voice. so, whilst the function itself performs properly, it feels limited in its usefulness. I bought it and am going to carry on to use it as I haven’t found any other newest GPS devices which are a cut above this one particular. &#13+ The lifetime map and site visitors updates, bluetooth is a plus. you have to go by means of a couple much more clicks and inputs ahead of you can discover your POI. For instance, conserving a spot to favorites requires many clicks (as opposed to the old streetpilot unit)

USERS REVIEWS:

If your actual speed exceeds the posted restrict, it turns red. This function seems to only work when you are in or all around greater cities. This is my 3rd Garmin GPS. There are two distinctly different attributes on this unit for figuring out the turn lanes. Other Notes: &#13I found the estimated time of arrival to be more precise than my prior GPSs. “4810 Whitewood Court” ended up with some thing really strange. One is “Viewing Junctions” which displays a image of the upcoming junction, total with signage. On my trip there had been no traffic problems, so I did not get to knowledge any rerouting due to site visitors conditions. The latter disturbs my wife Even so, when you want to give an deal with to find, the unit carried out badly. This takes up about the proper half of the screen. When it comes to “commands” this feature functions OK, but I have discovered I have to turn the radio volume down or talk Quite LOUDLY. Function 4 – Site visitors. I needed to talk about the new attributes that attracted me to this unit and how I evaluated their usefulness on my initial three hour road trip to a area I know by heart. Element five – Posted speed limits – As you are navigating a little sign appears on the display displaying the posted restrict and your real speed. Feature two – Automated voice recognition. Feature three – Turn lanes. The lane(s) you are to be in are brilliant white, although the other folks are grey. Possibly since it knows the posted limits as they alter along the route??? The menu system is various from my prior GPSs. . There is an icon composed of 3 horizontal white bars that, when pressed, bring up other possibilities. Between cities, pressing the visitors button indicated that there was no or weak signal. Knowing which lane you need to be in to the right way exit the highway and be ready for the next turn. I have become accustomed to their user interface and performance, so I can’t compare to other helps make. Considering that this was a tiny distinct than prior units, I am getting to get adjusted to this. I could not get it to the right way locate any of three addresses the right way. The five inch display was definately an improvement for me. I identified I had to glance at the “Viewing Junctions” image a number of instances ahead of I understood which lane it needed me to be in. I found the arrows to be Extremely valuable and fast to absorb at a glance. I located the “Viewing Junctions” not really useful, as you had to search above a significantly bigger location of the screen to absorb the info in a glance. Good little element to retain truthful men and women honest. I also have truck stops I like to use. We go camping usually and I have all the state parks as custom POIs. e. The other turn lane characteristic is a tiny area in the upper left corner that shows , by employing arrows, the number of lanes. &#13. . i. So I thought telling the GPS what I desired created a lot of sense. I considered a 7 inch Magellan, but when I found out you could not set up custom POIs on the Magellan, it ruled that one out for me. I definately do not like becoming distracted by touching the screen to see how far the subsequent roadside rest is (see custom POIs above). Occasionally this icon is in the reduce right of the display, occasionally it is positioned elsewhere based on wherever you are in the menus. My earlier unit was a 4 inch. For me at least, the “Viewing Junction” feature was of no use to me. I am older and am possessing to use reading through glasses to see the GPS mounted to the dash. Characteristic one – five inch screen

It is also great to have lifetime maps and site visitors upgrades. For example, on my old unit I used to have search for and then form in “REST A” to locate the next rest spot on my route. In summary, I am a delighted customer who is enjoying the new functions that Garmin has added to it is new 2012 line of GPSs. The greater display alone makes it really worth an upgrade from an older unit. Properly worth the upgrade!. With the 2555 “Rest Region” is a category and as a result only a couple of button presses away. I didn’t need to have voice activation or bluetooth so the 2555 is just fine for me. I have to disagree with the reviewer that says it is slow to locate wherever you are. Though some of the new functions are a little tough to get used to I still believe this unit deserves the highest marks. My preferred element on the 2555 is the categorization of areas you would like to go. Most of the reviews here are for the 2595, not the 2555 that I bought. I am a lengthy-time Garmin user and I assume it is light a long time more rapidly than my old Nuvi model. Again, that offers this model higher marks

Just not as responsive (sensitive?) as an iphone. &#13+ The lifetime map and site visitors updates, bluetooth is a plus. That is not as helpful as saying “Turn correct on freedom drive in 500 feet”. Had a old Streetpilot GPS that served me effectively for a extended time. The brightness setting doesn’t adjust but the real brightness does. &#13+ Brightness adjustments on switching from car power to battery only energy. Likewise, locating a location of interest takes more clicks than before. Why so many clicks and screens?!!Overall, I would say Caveat Emptor on acquiring the device. + Do not like the search element it is not as easy, basic and intuitive as the old streetpilot was. + Voice Navigation characteristic is great and exceeded my (very low) expectations. That intelligence is nicely and good if it performs nicely but it doesn’t. &#13 b) although voice recognition would seem to perform properly in quiet problems, I did find myself repeating my voice commands while making use of the device in a slightly noisy atmosphere (such as driving on a highway with road noise filling the cabin room). I purchased it and am going to carry on to use it as I have not found any other latest GPS devices which are a cut over this one. So, I am acquiring to appear at the distance on the unit. I am familiar with Garmin’s user interface. so, even though the function itself operates effectively, it feels restricted in its usefulness. &#13+ Graphical User Interface (GUI) wants to boost. So, you would have to go to the brightness setting to improve the brightness of the display when you switch. &#13+ Do not like the touchscreen responsiveness or precision. With the “voice advice with street names” setting, the gadget says some thing like “Turn correct on freedom drive”. you have to go by way of a couple a lot more clicks and inputs prior to you can find your POI. I feel this Garmin device has a resistive touchscreen as opposed to a capacitive touchscreen — which could explain the responsiveness. &#13. when you search for some thing, it generally restricts itself to the town you are in. &#13 a) Not all of the features/settings of the telephone are controllable by voice. See updates to original evaluation under:&#13———————————&#13First off, I have been a long time Garmin user. &#13+ Voice advice requirements to improve. &#13+ Touch interface is fine. &#13+ the route calculation and place search looks faster. &#13——–&#13(10/29/11) Updates/Addition to authentic critique: &#13I am going to knock off a star from the rating as there are different tiny annoyances with the device. There are some caveats although. For instance, saving a location to favorites requires a lot of clicks (unlike the old streetpilot unit). Usually come across myself mistyping even when becoming deliberate and careful in pressing a letter. Items have altered with this new nuvi but not so a lot that the UI feels alien. It is unable to come across the Point-of-interest (POI) if it is in a nearby town (Most typically your searches would fall in this category)
