Question by paul s: can a company fit tracking device to a car that the employee has taken ownership of by signing lease aggreemen the company have used a car scheme were we signed the lease agreement and have now told us that they are going to put gps tracking in them we have also found out if the company go bust we are responsible for the payments on the car so we think technically the vehicle is our own so they shouldnt be able to track it they are saying its to make us more productive and give customers better service its not bothered them for the last 30 yrs only now when we have signed the lease agreement

I know that the phone is company property and they can put the GPS on it if they want to, but do they have to inform me? I was told by a friend in a high up position that my company was doing this, but that they were not going to tell anyone about it. Location is Washington DC and no it is not a government job. Yeah, let me be clear, I’m not terribly concerned about getting into trouble, I’m a salaried employee and am good at my job. I spend about 75% of my time in the field and 25% in office. Do I sometimes go home half an hour early when I am in the field, finish early and am an hour away from my office, yeah, but my boss knows and doesn’t care. And if I wanted to game the system, I would turn off the phone and have it forward calls to my personal cell. I am also on call 24 hours a day, so they could track my off-clock movements if i didn’t already have my calls forwarded when I was off the clock. I’m just curious if they had to tell me…
