Do companies make nodes for GPS tracking?
Question by JON W:
Do companies make nodes for GPS tracking?
I have a GPS model and was wandering if a company sold a node that my unit could track. I am mainly concerned about my son, he just turned 17 and is hanging out “with a wrong crowd”. I’m just doing it for his safety, but when he is 18, I was thinking of using it for my upcoming 16 year-old’s car. Anyone know of any retailers?

You current GPS can’t track anything other than where it is, there is no such thing as a “node” that your GPS can track.
You can buy GPS tracking devices that you can place in a car and then track on your computer or a smartphone. A google for GPS tracking device shows up lots of options .
Tracking devices come in two varieties, passive ones with no monthly fee or additional costs that can’t give you real time position information. You need to take them out the car and connect them to the computer at which point they can give you a history of where the car has been.
And active ones that use a built in cellphone link to transmit their location to the outside world. These will either require a monthly fee and give you the full history and current location at any given time (you could also check if he was speeding) or ones which will charge you every time you request the devices location, cheaper to run if you only want to check every now and then but not as flexible.
Which type works best for you depends on what exactly you want to know.
Either way you’ll probably be looking at something in the $ 200 to $ 400 price range depending on battery life and other options.
