If you have a good relationship with your child there is no need for this type of thing to occur but if you dont and youre scared witless maybe its not a bad option.

messed up. c’mon. independence and self reliance? why not put a RFID in everyone and everything? Kids need to learn and NONE of us will last forever. Love, live, and understand that we are all already dying.

I think it’s a good idea. It’s always best to know where your child is at all times. In this crazy world we live in, you never know what’s going to happen.

i guess it depends on your kids opinion about it. i personally wouldn’t want my parents to do that to me, not that i have anything to hide, but if your kid is freaked out about it then i wouldn’t force it on them

It depends on their age. I know someone who is terrified that her ex-husband will kidnap their 7 year old. In that case, having the child carry a phone or something with GPS would be justified.
I would not impose it on a typical teen, however. I must admit, I’ve been tempted, but I resisted because I feel that it’s important for normal teens to make some of their own decisions and deal with the consequences. They also need to know that their parents trust them. If they don’t feel they are trustworthy people, they will never develop a sense of responsibility and self-worth. They will not have the self-confidence to make decisions. If they can’t behave without someone monitoring them, they will never be able to control themselves as adults.
There may be situations where more monitoring is called for. If a teen has a history of running away or getting into serious trouble, that would be different. And for inexperienced drivers, using car GPS to limit the area where they can drive or to monitor their speed may save them from very costly mistakes. Many fatal accidents among teens occur in places the kids weren’t supposed to be, such as on country roads, and as a result of excessive speed.

What an amazing idea. I think that it should be highly considered. Nothing more horrible than a parents worry about their child.

i think you have to not just to keep an eye on them (if they are a “wild child”) but for safety reasons. For example if they get into an accident, caught in cross fire, being chased, or just need me to pick them up because they feel unsafe.

If you think they have been kidnapped then, yes, it is a good idea, but if your just being nosey then no, stop being so over protective, how do you expect your child to ever grow up when you act like that?
