No
A GPS device is NOT—- LOJAC (the device that sends out the traceable signal for locating the vehicle)

yes a vehicle with GPs is trackable. not trackable by just anyone though. you would need special inside info (and tech)that the consumer would not have access to.. A short story, 5 vehicles were stolen from a Mfgs lot, 3 were recovered immeditately and the remaining 2 were found using the GPS

bingo, gps just uses cool technology. now if you have the other nav. system, or onstar(just theoretical) yes your capable of being tracked.
now some vehicles even store your info for future tech download. this data is a way to keep a digi-graph for performance troubleshooting etc. well it logs vehicle speed.
ive only heard this info. i dont know how true or if the digi-snitch voids the warranty, but way cool huh.
now as far as i know, gps uses a signal(group of) beamed from a low wattage stationary orbit network of sats. I drove a tractor with gps nav. it recieved gps data, then transmitted to remote recievers, and when they recieved their ping, triangulated the position of the tractor to like 1/2″
it could also be used to make topographical maps, via recorded data uploaded to a company who returned the data as an image.
the thing took into account pitch, yaw and roll and all were programable. did i mention it was the most boring thing ever to drive! until the deadman went off hahahahaha

Yes / no, just like your cell phone and. Most small Gps units do not run directly off a satellite antenna. But, off cell phone towers. many cell company’s offer GPS for your phone now—-and tracking for your kids cell phone so parents can track their kids. If you notice that in most modern gps units–if you loose your gps signal, your cell phone has also lost it’s signal.
But, you would have to have a registered signal number and a company to monitor your signal. Like Lo jack–. There is a big difference between the a Federal agency using your signal to follow you and a stolen car. So normal police departments don’t have the ability.
