How effective are vehicle GPS tracking/recovery systems?
In order to gain piece of mind in the event my car is stolen (again), I am seriously considering this investment.
1) Anyone made this investment? If so, how much did you spend and have you ever had to use it?
2) Recommended products?(e.g.LoJack,MircoTRAKgps)
3) Ways thieves can overcome system?
Thanks.

These systems are amazingly effective, LoJack is the only one I am familiar with. Theives can disable the system IF they know the car is equipped with it and where it is located (usuall buried behing the dash assy). Of course, only a really dumb theif would steal a car equipped with this device, but, alas, most crooks are pretty dumb. Unsure of the cost of the device and service but you should be able to transfer it to another vehicle later.
Frankly, the most effective anti-theift system we’ve seen in the industry is the encoded keys that disable the vehicle when tampered with or attempted to be driven without the proper key. The only way a typical dirtbag will get your ride then is with a tow truck.

@CowboyBill,
How does the encoded keys works, and do you know of any samples I could look up on the internet?
