How do you car rental agencies know if you drive out of your state?
In Florida, there is unlimited miles if you stay in FL, GA and Alabama. How would they know if you drive out of those states? It’s like some ridiculous charge per mile if you drive out of that area. I am in FL and plan to drive to KY (in May) and was wondering if anyone know if they tracked their cars via GPS or something?

yup, they track them with GPS.

some do, some don’t but it’s not worth paying the penalty to find out.
just find a company that let’s drive to the states your visiting.
for example Enterprise will usually insure you as long as you tell them what States your driving in.

A number of rental car companies do track their vehicles. One, it does let them know where they are; if the car is really going where the customer said it was; and as a result, vehicle theft is lowered…and thus insurance rates can remain stable.
Please remember, when you sign a car rental contract, you’re not just signing a piece of paper…it’s a legal contract. Read the fine print! If you don’t give an honest disclosure on your destination…and have an accident, then you’re in violation of the Rental Agreement’s Terms & Conditions, and you are on the hook for anything that goes wrong. Have an accident and even your own vehicle insurance may not cover it…since you’re committed fraud on the contract.
Be smart…just shop around and find a rental car company that will let you go where you want to…and avoid the potential of major problems.
