Parents only…Is GPS tracking a good idea for teens?
Wouls you install a GPS tracking devise in your teens car? They are easy and cheap to get now (about $60 for the cheapest ones). They can monitor speed and text you if the driver leaves certain pre-set barriers.
Soooo….would you install one in your teens car, or is this more of a trust issue?
If you would install one, would you tell them about it?
i think that it would allow the teen more freedom, because parents would let them do more stuff than normal because the parents can monitor them if needed.

In order for me to install one I would have to have several resons not to trust my child. She would have to have done some untrustworthy things in the past. If she has never given me a reason to not trust her, no I would not. Of course I wouldn’t tell them if I put it in the car.

Do you feel a need to check up on your child? if so, then there isn’t any trust present.
If this was my child, I wouldn’t react to something they haven’t done yet. If you trust your kid enough to provide him a car, you should trust him/her enough to not have to track them down.

i think that i would talk to my teen and explain to them that you are considering this as an option, not only to make sure that they are staying out of trouble, but in our crazy world today it’s also a safety issue…i can’t count the number of missing people that i have heard about on the news or people who get their vehicles stolen. you can also set up boundaries with your teen letting them know that you are not interested in monitoring these things, they are just a precaution in case they are ever needed. if you trust your teen and they are on the up and up, i think they would think it was a pretty cool feature.

Sure. There’s a safety issue here as well. Imagine being able to check their location if they are really really late or have gone missing and you can’t contact them via cell.

I don’t understand why some parents are afraid to be parents these days. Your are the parent. Teens especially cannot be trusted. Weren’t we all teens before? Even the best kids that get good grades and such at times do stupid things, it’s not their fault though it’s the hormones. When my son drives you can bet that I will track him. I would like to have him micro-chipped also if I find that’s available here in the US. Our children are given to us to protect until they can fend for themselves.

i think that you as parents are ass holes. i’m a teenager and i’d be pissed if my parents put a tracking device on my car. i’m old enough and i can do whatever i damn well please, you don’t like it. kick me out.
